Be Prepared for Your Dutch Oven Cooking Experience in Montana

Getting ready for your Dutch Oven Outfitters class is simple…
but it matters.

You’re coming to work around fire, cast iron, weather, and the outdoors.
If you pack right, your experience will be smooth, comfortable, and way more enjoyable.

🔥 KEEP IT SIMPLE

We provide:

✔ All Dutch ovens & cooking tools
✔ All food & ingredients
✔ Cooking setup and training equipment

You bring your personal gear, clothing, and essentials.


🧭 STEP-BY-STEP: HOW TO PACK RIGHT

Step 1: Pack one main bag (duffel or backpack)
Step 2: Bring a small day pack (for daily use)
Step 3: Pack for hot days AND cold nights
Step 4: Choose clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or smoky
Step 5: Keep it simple… don’t overpack

That’s it.


👕 CLOTHING YOU’LL NEED

Montana weather changes fast. Be ready for anything.

✔ 2–3 pairs of pants (jeans or hiking pants)
✔ 3 T-shirts
✔ 2 long sleeve shirts
✔ 1 hoodie or warm layer
✔ Jacket or coat (fleece, vest, or windbreaker)
✔ Rain gear (jacket + pants)
✔ Long underwear (1 set)
✔ Gloves
✔ Hat for sun + beanie for cold
✔ Wool socks (recommended)

👉 You will get dirty. Leave the nice clothes at home.


👟 FOOTWEAR (IMPORTANT)

✔ Closed-toe shoes ONLY during class
✔ Sturdy boots or hiking shoes
✔ Camp shoes for relaxing

🚫 No sandals during cooking or training

You’ll be working around hot coals and heavy cast iron. This is non-negotiable.


🧼 PERSONAL ITEMS

✔ Towel & washcloth
✔ Shampoo & conditioner
✔ Biodegradable soap
✔ Toothbrush & hygiene items
✔ Shaving kit

Keep it basic.


🎯 MUST-HAVE ITEMS

✔ Reusable water bottle
✔ Sunglasses
✔ Sunscreen
✔ Flashlight or headlamp
✔ Small personal first aid kit
✔ Camera (optional, but you’ll want it)
✔ Binoculars (optional for wildlife)


🐻 BACKCOUNTRY ADD-ONS (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

✔ Bear spray (required for hiking/horseback riding – available onsite)
✔ Day pack with water bladder
✔ Extra layers for changing weather


🏕️ 10-DAY CLASS ONLY (ADVANCED)

If you’re doing the full backcountry experience:

✔ Sleeping bag
✔ Sleeping pad
✔ Pillow

We provide tents and cots… you bring comfort.

✔ You will smell like smoke
✔ You will get dirty

✔ This is hands-on, not a vacation spa
